Old Indian Valley Mine

After spending several hours at the market, we got in the car and drove south, towards seward. We came across the Old Indian Valley gold mine, where we bought a small bucket of dirt and mined for gold.  It was alot of fun, and educational!  Dave, our guide showed us how to pan properly, and to get the dirt out of the pan without losing the gold.  See pictures. :)  We both found between 5 and 10 flakes of gold when we finished! (You can kind of see them in the tubes in the last picture). I loved seeing the results of our work.  I don't know how gold miners used to do it all day long; it really takes alot of effort and it's tedious, the same thing over and over again.  But I think it would be really fun to get a pan and do it just for kicks.
