University of Alaska Fairbanks Museum

This is the UAF Museum.  It was on top of a hill, with an incredible view.  They had some short videos we watched; one on the Aurora Borealis and one on "Winter" which really interested us.  Both were very interesting though and while we haven't seen the Aurora Borealis while we're in Fairbanks, we found out that we should be able to see it about 41 days out of the year in Bethel!  We'll be sure to post pictures when we do!

This is a picture of the ATG, the Alaska Territorial Guard who were brought to life during WWII to defend Alaska when the Japanese occupied the Aleutian islands.  Bet you didn't know that the Japanese did make landfall in the US, did you?
Ok, it's a picture, but it looks pretty real, doesn't it?!?

This Copper nugget was uncovered during placer mining activity in 1936.  Numerous smaller copper and gold nuggets were found in the same area.  This nugget weighed 5495 pounds and was found in the Wrangell Mountains.
This is the skull of a wooly mammoth.  They had the jaws and teeth as well of the wooly mammoth and a mastodon.

A Triceratops skull..  I've never seen one of these before.
Real gold nuggets and powder found in Alaska, as well as jewelry made from it.
This high school diploma was made in 1917 on moose hide.

Trans Alaskan Pipeline. Still more to come later.
Interesting construction data of the pipeline:
